about

I named this album Dissected Maps, because I’m a map dissector.

Let me explain… in studying the origins of puzzles, for another project I was working on, I came across the fact that the first puzzles were actually dissected maps, wherein which all the pieces, when connected together, would form a map, either geographical or to a hidden treasure. In the same way I cut, splice, loop, rearrange, distort, and chop /// with these puzzle-pieces of sound, my hope was to create a new map, in search of different perspectives and undiscovered ways of thought, lands that the mind has not yet traveled to. Every part of this album was sourced from a vinyl record. I wanted this to be an international affair, so I sampled music from across the globe, India, Europe, Russia, Asia, etc.

This album is broken up into 2 halves, Dionysus and Apollo. “Apollo, as the sun-god, represents light, clarity, and form, whereas Dionysus, as the wine-god, represents drunkenness and ecstasy”.
The Dionysus songs are darker, feel sinister and evil, and the Apollo tracks are instilled with joy and light.

Anyways, excuse the dust and static, these puzzle-pieces have been living in the attic,

Enjoy the music,

I hope you get lost, in a good way,

love Mirrormelt.
