about

A crate digging journey through my Spanish record collection.
This project is not polished, it’s raw, full of dirt and crackle, straight from my computer to your ears. It’s dedicated to my Father who loved music himself and shared that love with me. The music sounds like what those memories are for me, foggy, scratchy, dusty, in a loop, imperfect, and pure. On another level, this album is about divorce, my parents separated around the time of that picture. These songs express betrayal, love, hate, regret, passion, and spiritual crisis. Old Spanish records convey, maybe overdramtically at times, these human emotions. So I felt that it would serve as the perfect tapestry for this theme of family, lost memories and the feeling of nostalgia one feels when they hear a song that takes them back to a certain time or moment in their lives. I hope this triggers that for you and you get lost in a memory, at least for a while.

When I first started working on my own music, many moons ago, before Ableton and the Internet all I had was an ASR-10, a turntable, and my growing record collection. I would spend the little money I had from my part time jobs, still in high school, on records to buy from local spots, from local thrift stores and from older family members that had small stashes. Nothing beat the feeling of discovering and creating a loop from a song never used before and making it your own. It felt like magic, Chop chop. I was in love. Through the years, I ventured off and put more energy into electronic/experimental music, but with this project I go back to my roots. No you tube digging, not that I’m against that, I’ve done if before, but I do take pride in knowing I acquired these records through my life’s travels and recorded these records into the sampler myself, a lost ritual of sorts. This is my way of honoring and paying respect to the art form of crate digging.

Included in the Bandcamp download as a bonus are select sample based tracks I’ve made over the past 20 years. Thanks for listening, peace and blessing to you all, hold your loved ones tight, Mirrormelt
