Let me explain how this project came to be and what it’s about. My nephew (from my father’s first marriage) recorded his grandmother Josefina, before she passed, singing a few old Spanish standards. He reached out to me, said he had these recordings collecting “digital dust” on his computer for over 10 years and sent me the files to see if I can do anything with them. When I first heard her voice, I was immediately struck at how beautiful she sounded, the pain and wisdom in her voice, the sense that she experienced so much in life, both anguish and joy. So I began the process of chopping and cleaning up her vocals, creating new songs from these recordings and in essence bring her back to life in spirit through music. She was loved dearly by all of her grandchildren and even though I never met her, I feel forever connected to her, through this process of creation, I’ll never forget her. I’d like to thank my nephew Jeshua for sharing and entrusting me with these recordings.
